TPB FTW
So the first verdict finally came, almost 3 years after the raid. You might have heard about it in the news...
You, our beloved users, know that this little speedbump on the
information super highway is nothing more than just, a little bump.
Todays verdict has already been appealed by us and will be taken to the
next level of court (and that will take another 2 or 3 years!)
The site will live on! We are more determined than ever that what we do is right. Millions of users are a good proof of that.
We have seen that some people that we dont know have started
collecting donations for us, so we can pay those silly fines. We firmly
ask you NOT to do this. Do not gather or send any money. We do not want them since we will not pay any fines!
If you really want to help out, here is a list:
* Seed those torrents a little bit more than you usually do!
* Buy a t-shirt and show the world where your sympathy is.
* If you live in Europe, vote in the election for the EU parliament in June.
* Continue to build the internets! Start more bittorrent sites, blog
more, start your own lobby group, create, remix, mash up and continue
to grow more heads on this amazing hydra that we know as the internets!
* Do not be afraid of using the network. Invite your friends to this
and other file sharing systems. Calm people down if they're upset. We
need to stay united.
And say it loud say it proud! We are all The Pirate Bay!
Regarding Friday
On friday we will get the verdict in the ongoing trial. It will not
be the final decision, only the first before the losing party will
appeal. It will have no real effect on anything besides setting the
tone for the debate, so we hope we win of course.
Since a lot of people and press are really interested in the outcome
of this part of the spectrial, we've decided to hold a small press
conference on friday at 13.00 swedish time (GMT+1 / CET). It will be
held on Bambuser, no-one is invited physically to participate, only
digitally.
The URL for the Bambuser-stream will be posted on the front page of
the site on friday some minutes before 13. If you're from the press or
just interested in hearing our thoughts about the outcome, you are
welcome to join the stream and chat.
Press release
Before you start reading about it in the press, please read our joint press release.
Now things will really start shaking!
(Oh, did you notice the "anonymous"-functionality at the torrent page...?
Personal RSS
We just added a new way to download torrents.
Instead of pressing "download", getting the torrent and opening it
in your torrent client, you can now push "add to personal RSS".
On your settings page
you see the URL for your own personal RSS feed. Add that to your
torrent clients RSS-feed and make it download without a filter from
that list. Then just leave the torrent client open and it will start to
download what you chose - no matter where you are in the world, as long
as you're logged in.
We hope that it's a small nice addition for people to remember to
download stuff that you find on your cellphone, at your friends place
or whatever, without the need to update your torrent client (hopefully,
if you have a smart client to begin with...).
(As always when we do something it's a beta. The feed will for
instance not be physically created before you actually add your first
torrent to the personal feed, we might fix that later... and there's no
way right now to remove something from the rss feed, if it's added.
That might be fixed in the future as well. Might be.)
Guru meditation
We had some problems with one of our servers that act as a tunnel
relay. The site was down for a couple of hours during the day as we
chose to upgrade some internal software while the site was down anyhow.
TPB
should now be able to handle more traffic than ever before and we hope
that is needed during our upcoming trial. Oh, and today is the name-day
for "Bert". Congratulations to all fat stupid record executives out
there with that name, if there are any.
IPv6 support
We're adding native support for IPv6 to our system. First up, the
trackers have got some newly added v6 support. Our name servers are
also responding on v6 and the website will soon be available on v6 as
well.
All users are encouraged to learn more about IPv6 and to try to use
it instead of IPv4. It's especially good for torrent traffic as there
will be no issues with port forwarding or NAT!
Also, we would
love for the developers of the great torrent clients out there to have
a dialog about IPv6 with the team that develops our tracker. It would
be really good to cooperate around this!
Overload
We've had some issues with the servers being a bit overloaded the past weeks.
Especially the search feature have been lacking a bit of server
capacity. This should now be fixed (knock on wood) since we've added
two old servers for now. We've also ordered up two new servers that
will replace the old extra ones we've added so we can cope with the
increase in traffic.
Btw, the bus only need about 2000 SEK (rougly 200 EUR) to reach is goal.. so go to the bus website and donate if you want to help with the last bits and pieces before the trial!
S23K bus to TPB trial
In February and March 2009 a state-sponsored spectacle will be
arranged in the Swedish capital. The trial against The Pirate Bay - one
of the longest in Swedish history - begins at the Kungshomen courthouse
in Stockholm.
The modified city bus of PiratbyrÄn, formerly known as S23M (summer
2008) and S23X (fall 2008), is at the same time getting restless in its
parking lot in Belgrade. It wants to go on a spring tour, back to
Stockholm.
In connection with this it changes its name to S23K. On spot outside
the trial, it will be used to intensify the spectacle, among other
things functioning as a press center for The Pirate Bay and PiratbyrÄn
and as physical gathering place for sympathisers and curious people.
Everyone who sympathises with KOPIMI is encouraged to donate 10 or
20 euros to the S23K funding to get the tour under way. As a donor you
have the option of choosing a name or alias visible on the donor list.
You will also be a VIP guest at the party celebrating the home-coming
of the bus with free entrance and a welcoming gift as thanks.
Bring Back The Bus
Kopimi the logo and everything
Recently in Sweden, a book publishing company have been happy to
tell the press that TPB have complained about them using our logo on
the cover of a new book, entitled "Piraterna" (eng: The Pirates).
They claim that we are full of "double standards" and that we are
furious that they have "stolen" our logo. This is of course not the
case.
Some background. The publishing company have given some money to
some very good authors to make a book about the swedish pirate
movement. A worthy cause and it is about time! The publishers then
decided to put our logo on the book. We are of course proud of that.
The problem is that they at the same time have told people that this is
our official biography. And when we've sent e-mail to them, they
haven't replied to them. Phones have not been answered.
We have contributed to the book ourselves. If we didn't like the
idea we wouldn't have done so. Previously, our logo has been used by
many companies, even for commercial reasons. There are people selling
inofficial TPB clothing. And we all love that! The case about the book
is that we where upset that they claim to be our own biography and
nothing else. We even told them that they of course could use our logo,
but we would hope they changed it in order to not deceive people.
The publishers, who apparantly didn't even read the book to
understand how we operate, decided to do a cheap stunt and quote a few
lines out of a much longer e-mail.
We like the book. That's the problem. We just don't like the
publishing company. They are also one of those who are for the new
IPRED law here in Sweden so we are even more unhappy about them. And
this is a fundamental problem. Too many companies with too much money
can buy intellectual property like this book. We hope that people will
read it, but it would be a shame to give money to this company.
So end sentence - copy whatever you find on our sites. We have RSS
feeds to help you copy data from peers. But don't forget to copy our
creations, we're also peers in this universe. Copy our logo(s), copy
our doodles, remix them, make new and better ones. Print them on
clothes, sell them. Make a profit for yourself! Or give it to someone
you care about. Care about the copying! And remember that copying can
never be stealing.
Happy new year!
Happy new year!
The past year has been good to all of us. Next year won't be as
good, is our sad prediction. File sharing will not be very affected but
our rights as human beings are being infringed on all the time. New
laws are passed all over the world and especially here in Sweden. We're
very sad by this so we hope that we are proven wrong.
Anyhow, happy 1984^H^H^H^H2009! Let's continue to break some new records this year as well!
